Pick the shot before you gather
By the time you're in the air, it's too late to decide. Read the help defender two dribbles out and lock in: euro, reverse, floater, or contact finish. Commit early — hesitate late and you get blocked.
Jump into contact, not away from it
Amateur instinct is to shy away from a defender. Pros jump through them. Contact after you release is a free throw. Contact before you release is a bailout foul call — and often an and-1.
The three finishing packages you need
- Euro step — beat the defender before you leave the floor
- Floater / push shot — beat rim protectors who wait
- Reverse layup — use the rim itself as a shield
The 5-a-side daily touch drill
5 finishes from each of: right side, left side, middle, baseline, reverse. Every day. Nothing rebuilds finishing feel faster than daily reps on both sides of the rim.
