Middle-school players typically make somewhere from 40 to 55 percent, though variability is high. High-school varsity averages usually sit near 65 to 72 percent. College players commonly shoot 68 to 75 percent as a team, with individual guards often above that band.
NBA free-throw averages have hovered near 75 to 78 percent for years, with elite shooters above 90 percent. These benchmarks are useful only as context — a middle-schooler shooting 70 percent is already advanced, while an adult recreational player under 60 percent has a large runway.
Build a routine you never break
