How to measure standing reach
Use a flat wall and a tape measure. Remove shoes if you want a body measurement, or wear your normal basketball shoes if you want an on-court testing baseline. Stand side-on with heels down, ribs controlled, and the reaching shoulder near the wall. Extend the arm and fingers fully without leaning or rising onto the toes.
Mark the highest fingertip point with chalk, removable tape, or a helper. Measure vertically from the same floor surface to the mark. Repeat twice. If marks differ by more than half an inch, reset your posture and test again.
Estimating from height and wingspan
A rough shortcut places standing reach near 1.31 to 1.33 times height. A six-foot player might therefore estimate roughly 94 to 96 inches. This works for a quick calculation but can miss meaningful differences caused by arm length, hand length, shoulder width, and torso proportions.

Avoid treating online averages as precise population science. Different sources use standing, countermovement, approach, or device-based tests. Samples may include recreational players, school athletes, combine prospects, or professionals. Those groups should not be blended without explanation.
