How to Do a Crossover That Actually Breaks Ankles

A crossover doesn't work because it's fast. It works because it sells the first move. If the defender doesn't bite, you're just moving the ball side to side.

The three-part crossover

  1. Sell — shoulder dip, eyes, and a hard step in the first direction
  2. Cross — snap the ball low and tight, below the knee
  3. Explode — first step in the new direction long, low, and past the hip

Why most crossovers don't work

Players cross high and lazy without selling the first move. The defender never shifts weight. A real crossover forces the defender to lean — then punishes them for it.

The killer add-on: the hesitation

Pause on the sell step for a beat. The defender's momentum keeps drifting. When you finally cross, they're already a step behind — and they can't recover.
