The math for a six-foot player
The rim is 120 inches high. A useful one-hand dunk target is around 126 inches, six inches above the rim. If your standing reach is 96 inches, you need about 30 inches of vertical. If your reach is 93 inches, you need about 33 inches. That three-inch difference is significant but completely invisible in listed height.
A two-hand dunk usually requires more clearance and control. Plan for roughly 129 inches or more of maximum reach. A player who can scrape in a one-hand dunk may still need several additional inches before a two-hand finish feels reliable.
