5 Basketball Shooting Drills You Can Do Without a Hoop

You don't need a hoop to become a shooter. Every elite shooter on earth has hours of formless, rimless reps. These five drills work in a hallway, a bedroom, or a backyard.

1. Elbow snaps (lying down)

Lie flat on your back. Shoot the ball straight up. If your form is true, the ball comes straight down with pure backspin. If it drifts, your release isn't square.

2. One-hand wall shots

Stand 3 feet from a wall. Shoot one-handed into a marked spot. Forces elbow alignment without your guide hand cheating.

3. Form holds

Get into your release position and hold it for 10 seconds. Builds the neural pattern of where the ball lives at release.

4. Pocket-to-set transitions

Practice moving the ball from catch position to set point — same path, every time.

5. Shadow shooting

Mirror or phone camera. 25 perfect form reps, every rep filmed. You'll see flaws on the screen you'd never feel.
